What is rhinoplasty?

A Rhinoplasty Overview

Your rhinoplasty, or nose job, can be performed in your doctor's office, a clinic, or in the hospital. There are two basic procedures: Open (external) and closed (internal).

Open procedures involve two incisions made inside the nostrils and across the cartilage wall between the nostrils at the bottom of the septum. You may also receive incisions at the base of your nostrils if you are also having your nostril reshaped. There is limited if any scarring as a result of these incisions.

Closed rhinoplasty involves completely internal incisions (i.e., none outside of the nose). This option is for those who are not looking to reshape the nose drastically. Your surgeon will be help you assess which method is best for you.

Be prepared: Although your nose is the center of your surgery, you will have two very black eyes for a while after the surgery. Also, expect swelling for some days afterwards; you won't see your "new" nose for at least one week.
